The rapid advances in molecular techniques have modernized wider aspects of microbial ecology research tremendously. Sustainable networks among microbial ecologists and rapid sharing of contemporary research ideas and outcomes are critically important for all-round prosperity and development of microbial ecology. However, microbial ecology research in Southeast Asian countries has not gained its full potential due to various challenges. Microbial ecology conferences and symposia are organized occasionally in Southeast Asia. Therefore, there is a strong need to establish a regional network to promote and organize regular meetings/conferences for providing opportunities to microbial ecologists in the region so as to exchange ideas, discuss their recent research, and work toward overcoming the challenges. The establishment of such a network will help foster long-term collaboration in the field of microbial ecology in the region and help accelerate much-needed focus to develop this important discipline which has consequences for the environment and human health.
The International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME) has become the premier platform for the sharing of high impact research in the broader field of microbial ecology through publications and symposia.
We proudly announce the Southeast Asian Regional Symposium on Microbial Ecology, 2020 (SARSME 2020) sponsored by the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME) on February 12 – 14, 2020 in Pokhara, Nepal. Broadly, the symposium aims to bring together microbial ecologists to exchange their ideas and challenges, to encourage researchers to carry out high impact research and to promote early career microbial ecologists / microbiologists of the region. Hence, the motto for this symposium is “Strengthening microbial ecology research network in Southeast Asia”. Southeast Asian microbial ecology activities in association with the ISME will have a high impact on development of research networks and collaborations within and among the countries of this region. We cordially invite microbial ecologists / microbiologists from Southeast Asia to join us for SARSME 2020 in Pokhara, Nepal – a natural paradise city.
